As a Sr. Lead UX Researcher, you will drive large-scale initiatives that scale our organizations ability to innovate on behalf of customers in both business and consumer spaces. You'll be a part of a centralized design & research team and will shepherd best practices for a cross-functional team of software developers and product leaders.

What You’ll Do:

Customer Advocacy - Identifies gaps in customer or situational knowledge and guides others in how to close the gap.  Brings attention to both specific research intel as well as relevant broad-based intel and how to leverage it to create the best experience. Crafts plans for long-term research initiatives and coordinates across multiple teams to drive deeper customer understand beyond the UX team.
Strategic Design Decisioning - Constant diligence on how to connect research activities and findings to driving positive outcomes for customers. Proactively assesses quality and alignment of objectives and research findings.
Asset Development and Production - Skilled in variety of specific research methods (e.g. customer inquiry, kano studies, diary studies, etc) and can apply the right method to need. Is curious and constantly learning new methods. Able to quickly draft plans and tools (such as interview script) to drive unbiased results. Applies care in dealing with customer data for proper use. Drives some operational rollouts of specific methods and proper use across groups and outside of UX. 
Facilitation Techniques - Partners with designers and others are what research needs are and collaborates to derive the best plan for the need. Offers guidance in terms of proper methods, timelines, and use of data. Facilitates activities that lead to deeper understanding of customer situations in order to drive innovations and broad sweeping changes as needed.
Purposeful use of Findings - Quicky and effectively turns data into useful information for teams and ensures insights are understood and used for their work. Appropriately constructs creative ways to aid awareness of customer intel across sets of teams. Works with larger groups of customers on continued use of findings to help customers work together as well as internal groups work together.
Research Methodologies - Utilizes modern research tools (e.g. Qualtrics, user testing, dscout, etc) with ease and can adapt to tool changes as appropriate. May drive conversations about adoption of appropriate tools for research needs across the organization.

Requirements: 

Level of Formal Education: Advanced degree is not required; however, area of studies include general business, psychology, sociology or similar
Area of Study: Has some training in specific research methods but not necessarily from degree-offering program. May have advanced degree in variety of psychology-related fields.
Years of Experience: 10+ years of experience
Type of Experience: quantitative or qualitative based research, persona development, working with designers
Special Certifications: None required, but bonus if certified in research methods or practices.
Skills and Ability:
Builds collaborative relationships
Makes decisions using analytical thinking
Has relentless focus on customers; engages with them directly to bring their needs to the center of the design and build process
Focuses on how research is utilized to drive outcomes, not checklists
Drives organizational involvement in research rather than single person analysis
Always puts the customer first in how the company engages with them, respects them, and treats the information we gain from them

Retail District Sales Manager

Meet Phillip Rumpf, our Retail District Sales Manager in the Salt Lake City UT market. Phillip has been with Office Depot for 5 years now, and in that time, he has quickly advanced through our stores organization as a Customer Service Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager and now as District Sales Manager.

The path to his current position has been challenging and rewarding and his leadership took the opportunity to develop him and encourage his ambitions along the way. As a Store Manager, Phillip was identified as a high potential leader and was selected for our “Blue Angels” program for leadership development which led to his current DSM role.
