This is a 100% fully remote role. Work virtually from anywhere in the U.S.

The Company is making a significant investment in its multibillion-dollar digital platform to drive growth in its range of B2B products & services.  As a front end engineer in the digital organization you will be creating the company's next-generation of technology leveraging the full-stack of Public Cloud services, building and running micro-front ends in a containerized / Kubernetes environment.  If you love to build and are passionate about creating a truly exceptional customer experience, we are looking for you!

The candidate will possesses a solid knowledge of modern (ES6+) JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Working mainly, but not limited to, the front-end part of our applications. This role builds user-facing components and implements them with different workflows and tool chests such as Redux. The primary task is to develop a stable, robust, aesthetic and maintainable product. This role also requires a solid understanding of the toolchain of modern web development including build tools and transpires and the ability to apply these pragmatically to achieve high quality deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Create new features or parts of internal/user facing applications, with the end user in mind providing the best experience

2. Develop components and libraries that are reusable and future-proof

3. Confident in using UI/UX designs or wireframes to create the respective code and the application for multiple browsers

4. Uses knowledge on React.js and its lifecycle to maximize components performance across different devices and browsers

5. Partners with technology teams throughout the organizations to build best-in-class customer experiences

6. Focus on professional development through our wide array of learning opportunities for continued growth within the company

Education & Experience

Level of Formal Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

Area of Study: Graduate degree preferred

Years of Experience: Minimum 7 years experience in related field

Type of Experience: Experience in hands-on front end development (Javascript, HTML, CSS)

Experience in partnering cross-functionally across an organization.

Technical Competencies: • 

Skills and Ability: • Solid understanding of React.js and its fundamentals, including modern features like hooks; handson experience required

• Solid understanding of HTML and CSS/SCSS, and able to create responsive UI

• Excellent understanding of JavaScript including the OOP concept and how shadow DOM and DOM work

• Experience with widely used React.js state managers like Redux, Thunks and Sagas

• Knowledge of modern ECMAScript 

• Knowledge of Server Side Rendered ReactJS and understanding isomorphic ReactJS

• Knowledge of RESTful APIs

• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools like Webpack, Babel, NPM etc.

• Knowledge of the overall browser rendering behavior and measuring and optimizing performance

• Knowledge of building front-ends for multiple browsers and their limitations

• Strong hands-on experience with source code management system Git

• Experience in an agile work environment

• Understanding of what the business / stakeholders need and transfer that into your project

• Hands on experience with Unit Testing tools like jest, enzyme, mocha and chai

• Knowledge of StoryBookJS is a plus

Retail District Sales Manager

Meet Phillip Rumpf, our Retail District Sales Manager in the Salt Lake City UT market. Phillip has been with Office Depot for 5 years now, and in that time, he has quickly advanced through our stores organization as a Customer Service Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager and now as District Sales Manager.

The path to his current position has been challenging and rewarding and his leadership took the opportunity to develop him and encourage his ambitions along the way. As a Store Manager, Phillip was identified as a high potential leader and was selected for our “Blue Angels” program for leadership development which led to his current DSM role.
