Overview
The Payroll Manager is responsible for Payroll system support and the daily operation of data collection, garnishment processing and issuing of payroll checks for approximately 22,000 associates of the ODP Corporation, in multiple legal entities, in excess of $1 billion annually. Review, approve and assist in reporting payroll tax withholdings for Federal , State and local municipalities. Handles complex tax issues to ensure ODP is in legal compliance. This position is a subject matter expert with all Payroll related functions, processes and legislative rulings. This position contributes to continuous process improvement by managing through system and process implementations, upgrades and the sharing of best practices for improved business results. This position plays an integral role in problem solving, implementation and support of all HR, Tax, Accounting and Payroll related initiatives that require Payroll support. This position will lead and develop a team of highly skilled Payroll compliance professionals.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure that deadlines are met, and existing accounting processes and policies are carried out.
· Provide analytical review of P&L and Balance sheet Payroll items.
· Manage internal and external SOX and Financial control audits for Payroll.
· Provide guidance to payroll accountant in researching and resolving accounting inquiries, document and maintain adequate and effective payroll internal controls & support system implementations as they relate to Payroll Accounting
Education and Experience:
· Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.)
o Area of Study: Finance and Tax/Labor Laws
· Years of Experience: 4-7 years’ experience and/or training
o Type of Experience: In-house payroll processing for multi-state employer, Finance/Accounting related experience including Accounts Payable, Financial Systems and Audit
· Special Certifications or Technical Skills: CPP preferred
· Information Systems:
o Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
o Excellent PC skills
o Accounts Payable and Payroll systems, general ledger, and data warehouse management
o Large ERP experience including Oracle, PeopleSoft, KRONOS, JDA
· Technical Competencies: Knowledge of Financial and Human Resources systems
· Skills and Ability:
o Exceptional judgment skills with strong decision-making ability.
o Exceptional knowledge of the system, tax, legal and labor laws
· Personal Attributes: Exceptional customer service skills, innovative thinking, and experience with an emphasis on maintaining confidential information
