Overview

The Merchant, Associate Category will work alongside a Category Merchant to develop and communicate category plans that maximize sales, IGM dollars/rate based upon current market trends.  He/she will learn about responsible category including knowledge of products, vendor base, and industry innovation.  Also, with the Category Merchant, this position will analyze product assortments to identify and address opportunities, strategize assortment selection, pricing and promotions for a small category as a development opportunity.  Support category team with research and analytics on existing OD products and all competitive products.  Responsible to identify and initiate vendor set-up, and maintenance working with Merchandising Operations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

·       Learn about responsible area’s category assortment including knowledge of products, vendor base, industry innovation and competitive offerings.

·       Work alongside Category Manager to develop/communicate category plans that maximize sales, IGM dollars/rate based upon current market trends.

·       Analyze product assortments to identify and address opportunities.

·       Own the strategy, assortment selection, pricing and promotions for a small category as development opportunity working with his/her Category Manager.

·       Support category team with research and analytics on existing OD products and all competitive products.

·       Identify and initiate vendor set-up & maintenance working with and Merchandising Operations.

·       Coordinate and capture everyday/promotional prices for key competitors at store level and on-line as defined in OD’s pricing strategy.

·       Identify store clustering designations to improve inventory/assortment performance.

·       Identify and recommend actions for aged, discontinued and slow moving inventory. Communicate price changes as needed and support selection of items/categories for promotion within approved guidelines.

·       Execute the process required for the proper data flow of promotional data across affected systems to support the promotion, where merchandising ownership is required. Work with vendor base to ensure data accuracy in OD systems.

 

Education and Experience:

·       Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Merchandising or related disciplines

·       4-7 years’ experience in related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and foundational negotiation skills

·       Fundamental knowledge of office products merchandising

  • Positive and Engaging
  • Independent and self-motivated; action oriented
  • Integrity, accountability & trust
  • Demonstrate passion for the brand, products, services and solutions offered to our customers
