Overview

The Paralegal, Litigation reports directly to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation and works with the members of the litigation group to manage a docket of litigation and pre-suit claims involving the company.  At any given time, the docket may include commercial disputes, bankruptcy, real estate, consumer law and other matters as assigned.  From time to time, the role may also cover matters relating to product liability, personal injury, premises liability, environmental, real estate, privacy, regulatory compliance intellectual property claims, governmental investigations, and insurance claims.  This is a great opportunity for a paralegal who likes to learn new practice areas and also thrives in a team environment.

Responsibilties 

  • Assist in-house and outside counsel in all aspects of managing litigation and pre-suit claims.
  • Communicate with internal business personnel and outside counsel.
  • Investigate lawsuits and allegations by claimants and interview witnesses.
  • Research and collect information to respond to interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for production of documents, and third-party subpoenas.
  • Review and draft settlement agreements and correspondence.
  • Review and summarize deposition, hearing and trial transcripts, statutes, case law, regulations, court documents, and/or company documents.
  • Assist attorneys with complex case and project management, such as investigation, discovery, assembling documents for production and exhibits for trial, witness testimony, mediation and trial preparation.
  • Perform preliminary legal research.
  • Maintain and update case docket, manage records and prepare reports and presentations.
  • Plan and manage other projects as assigned.

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 4 years experience in related field 
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills and ability to advise all levels of personnel on complex issues.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment working under strict deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience using the electronic research tools, such as Westlaw.
  • Experience with electronic discovery and e-discovery processing systems (ie Exterro) is preferred.
  • Experience with case management/e-billings software, such as Legal Tracker (f/k/a Serengeti), is preferred.
