Overview

As member of the Product & Technology leadership team, the Director, Prod & Tech is responsible for the planning, execution and customer experience for our product and service offerings on our business platforms, with focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience, driving increased transactions, and achievement of corporate objectives.  Proven experience leading a technology or product organization, with demonstrated success managing customer-facing business initiatives from conception to implementation to delivery with quantifiable results is required. 
In this position, you will develop and implement a strategic roadmap for our product and service offerings that outlines key functional capabilities to be invested and pursued that maximize sales and customer experience.  Works cross-functionally in a matrixed team environment within Product and Tech, IT, digital marketing, core business teams and our global platforms leadership team to deliver and share results.
 
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
1. Designs, develop and implements the strategic roadmap for our product and service offerings across an specific product portfolio that outlines key functional capabilities to be invested and pursued that maximize sales and customer experience; builds solutions to solving complex technical problems across product roadmap
 
2. Delivers an optimal customer experience across our multiple Office Depot platforms for specific product portfolio by partnering cross-functionally within our Product and Tech, IT, digital marketing, core business teams and our Global platforms leadership team
 
3. Owns the design and drives the implementation of the strategic roadmap to deliver improved customer service, increased transactions and sales across our multiple Office Depot platforms
 
4. Responsible for building, developing talent, creating an innovation culture and growing a team of software development engineers and technical product and program managers, inclusive but not limited to interview and selection, coaching, communications, performance management and development planning
 
5. Interacts internally with executive level management requiring negotiation of significant matters to identify key issues and relationships relevant to cost estimates for current and proposed projects impacting our platforms
 
 
 
Education & Experience
 
Level of Formal Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
Area of Study: Information Systems, Computer Science, eCommerce or business related field 
Years of Experience: Minimum of 12years of related experience is required
Type of Experience: Also required is 10 years in a managerial role, 10+ years of diversified experience in software development, eMarketing, eMerchandising and Information Technology field and leading/managing eCommerce team. Retail eCommerce experience a plus.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; regularly required to make presentations to stakeholders, and must clearly present, articulate, and have the courage to defend findings and design decisions, formulated strategies to the stakeholders in a way that they can relate to and easily understand.
Interpersonal/People Skills: ability to facilitate smooth collaboration and relations necessary to be successful in this role; not troubled by complications, disagreements, and unnecessary delays. Ability to build trust among team members and convince people to follow him/her. Effective presentation skills. Exceptional relationship building skills required
Leadership Qualities: Ability to continuously drive results, display a high level of confidence not just in self but in other people as well, inspire and motivate team performance.  Demonstrate an ability to navigate complex situations and tasks with calmness and composure, setting an example for others. Ability to identify, attract, and develop team talent.
Building Effective Teams: Defines success in terms of the whole team; creates strong moral, a sense of belonging and spirit in the team. Provides mentorship & coaching to nurture developing talent.
 
Information Systems:
Possesses a technical and functional knowledge and skills to do the role at the right level of accomplishment.

Retail District Sales Manager

Meet Phillip Rumpf, our Retail District Sales Manager in the Salt Lake City UT market. Phillip has been with Office Depot for 5 years now, and in that time, he has quickly advanced through our stores organization as a Customer Service Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager and now as District Sales Manager.

The path to his current position has been challenging and rewarding and his leadership took the opportunity to develop him and encourage his ambitions along the way. As a Store Manager, Phillip was identified as a high potential leader and was selected for our “Blue Angels” program for leadership development which led to his current DSM role.
