Overview

The Accountant II, Sales Tax will work cross functionally with internal and external third-party resources to independently perform marketplace related sales tax processes. Primary responsibilities will include selecting item taxability by using third-party tax categories or conducting necessary tax law research, return and payment validation, tax data reconciliation, and other tax accounting related functions. This position will be the main point of contact for all marketplace related tax matters. The role requires a detail oriented multi-tasker with excellent communication skills and a history of sales tax knowledge.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Tax classification review of new items for Marketplace supplier onboarding and maintenance.
2. Work with third-party to validate data, review/approve returns and payments.
3. Research and stay current with sales tax rules and regulations for all states.
4. Documenting system changes, resolutions, decisions, and creating training and process procedures.
5. Communicate with tax authorities or third party on any open tax issues.
6. Tax accounting, monthly reconciling reported taxes and payments against the general ledger; Process adjusting journal entries when needed, and support month end close process.
7. Other assignments as needed that may be independent or group projects within our team environment.
 
 
Education & Experience
Level of Formal Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience 
Area of Study: Tax or Accounting
Years of Experience: Minimum 3 year experience in related field
Language Skills: English
Technical Competencies:
   • Microsoft Office 
   • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel
   • Computer literacy
   • Avalara
Skills and Ability:
   • Attention to detail
   • Excellent written and verbal communication 
   • Ability to work independently and with a team
   • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
   • Excellent time management skills
Information Systems: Oracle
Personal Attributes:
   • Positive and professional attitude
   • Adaptable and flexible
   • Eager to learn
Other/Preferred: Knowledge of tax laws and procedures
