Primary Responsibilities

 

The Data Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to the organization by researching, interpreting, and communicating data trends with resulting recommendations.  Responsibilities include data mining, research, reporting and review of large data and communicating findings clearly.  This position will provide fact-based results using various analytical tools and systems to effectively simplify large amounts of data into usable and executable information.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors’ degree, preferably in Business or relevant field
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field
  • Experience with large data analysis
  • Critical thinking
  • Demonstrated success in support / partnership roles
  • Analysis
    • Ability to decipher large data into usable and actionable information
    • Skilled using various analytical tools such as Essbase, SQL, APT, SAS, Cognos, advanced Excel
    • Working across the organization to gather data as needed
    • Digging into issues to uncover root cause
    • Scientific/statistical knowledge for Predictive Modeling
  • Communication
    • Must be comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization- providing results and recommendations for senior executives
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills – understanding customer’s needs and converting that into usable reports, or delivering a presentation at an executive meeting
    • Easily builds partnerships with all support groups and peers
  • Technology
    • Knowledgeable of the Office Depot systems and ability le to research and understand financial and inventory issues
    • Proficient with computer skills – Essbase, SQL, SAS, APT, Cognos, advanced Excel and other data management tools and presentation construction
  • Project Management
    • Required to manage a variety of projects and performance measures for an average two hundred-store area
    • Strong organizational skill
    • Demonstrates a global perspective in data analysis, interpretation and communication
  • Teamwork
    • Builds strong relationships across the organization
    • Seen as a business partner to other’s success

  • Retail Loss Prevention-
    • Clearly expresses an understanding of the role of Loss Prevention in the company and demonstrates an awareness of how to deliver the best results for the business partners
    • Ability to manage and maintain confidential information
    • Expertise in data mining and converting large data into usable information
    • Ability to collect and decipher data from multiple sources or systems
    • Communicates clear results from complex data
  • Retail Store Operations-
    • Clear understanding of the retail model and how each support team impacts company profit.
    • P&L review and research ability of data is required.

 

  • Provide team support for:
    • Track spend across multiple projects and budgets for Corporate, Retail and Supply Chain
    • Approve vendor work orders for capital costs or repair expense
    • Create monthly accruals and month-end reconciliations to ensure accurate forecasting
    • Partner with Project Accounting to set up capital projects
    • Track project completion and in-service dates to comply with accounting rules
    • Review and reconcile vendor statements
    • Process vendor invoices
    • Assist department leadership with annual planning activities
