Overview
This position leads the Income Tax team accountable for all income tax accounting, tax compliance and planning. The role is responsible for supporting strategic initiatives, creating more effective and efficient processes, and influencing organizational change to adopt more cost effective and efficient ways of working. This position has responsibility for leadership, process improvements, income tax operations, and projects.
There are 4 core areas of responsibility and accountability:
(1) Leadership, Coaching, and Alignment – lead team to ensure projects are being delivered timely as required, automations are identified and implemented, and processes are being evaluated for ongoing improvement and simplification. Staff development and training need to be a primary initial focus.
(2) Continuous Process Improvements – Lead process changes and improvement efforts to drive cost and time reduction and improve quality through process Automation, workflow and other technologies.
(3) Income Tax Operations – Manage governance and SOX processes with internal audit and our audit firm. Manage relationship with IRS through the CAP program. Manage tax compliance program and defend positions in audit. Improve stakeholder satisfaction through efficient and timely issue resolution and timely delivery of services. Evaluate and identify outsourcing opportunities and influence organizational change.
4) Project Management – Lead company strategic initiatives as tax representative to ensure projects are delivered timely and accurately. Deploy practices to ensure project value is maximized and risks are minimized.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Responsible for all income tax compliance for consolidated group including domestic and foreign income tax return filings and franchise tax. Also provide assistance in preparation of foreign financial statements, Country by Country reporting and Foreign Bank and Financial Account reporting.
· Responsible for management and review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision for domestic and international entities, including proper reporting of current and deferred income tax liabilities, as well as recording of income tax provision and drafting of footnotes.
· Review, approve and implement applicable SOX 404 internal controls related to all aspects of the income tax compliance functions. Primary contact with Internal Audit team.
· Establish an accurate assessment of the Company’s audit exposure and ensure proper accrual of sufficient reserves. Aggressively pursue positions to reduce assessments or realize refund claims. Review Federal and state income tax issues and/or exposure items (including ASC 450 (FAS 5) analysis for non-income taxes and ASC 740 (FIN 48/FAS 109) for income taxes.
· Research, analyze and compose technical memorandums on emerging legislative and tax policy developments, and other technical matters.
· Work with federal, state and international auditors to manage income tax and franchise tax audits. Work with the Internal Revenue Service in the Compliance Assurance Process (CAP) including monthly meetings, responding to information document requests and presentation of technical issues.
· Work with VP, Tax on tax planning strategies and participate in the preparation of income tax projections. Also assist with tax due diligence.
· Provide tax advice and customer service to internal business partners by performing the research and analysis to answer their inquiries. Business partners will include operations, finance and accounting, and other areas of tax.
· Special projects as assigned including, but not limited to, participation in the further automation of the tax planning, compliance, provision processes, and projects relating to other business initiatives.
· Train and develop staff of 2 or 3 staff to improve compliance, proper workpaper techniques, technical knowledge, research skills and strategic thinking.
Education & Experience:
Level of Formal Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
Area of Study: Taxation
Years of Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of experience in related field
Type of Experience: Directly related to income tax
Special Certifications: CPA license preferred
Technical Competencies & Information Systems:
· Oracle and / or SAP knowledge
Skills & Abilities:
· Strong Excel skills
